Dalmonia Rognean is a Romanian artist currently living between Vienna and Venice.
She works with photography, sculpture and mixed-media.
Starting from collected accounts, her work intuitively unfolds into a metaphysical and magical atmosphere.
Without surrendering her imagination to the empirical, she maintains a connection to it,
using this tension to constantly challenge predetermined narratives.
Rather than relying on a linear storyline, she is interested in world-making. Grounding her images in the language of reality, she expands them beyond it, creating worlds where multiple narratives surrounding her concept coexist.
This pull toward the space beyond sensory perception is fed by her fascination with human habits,
and with the beauty that emerges when we transform our flaws into fear-confronting rituals.
She currently studies Photography and Time-based Media with Maria Ziegelböck
at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
She is a co-founder of the ‘Against Photography’ collective art gallery, located in Vienna’s 15th district.
